Joseph Vaz College Commenced Sports Shooting Dicipline

Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa which had produced many sportsmen in national and international level has introduced Shooting Sport to the School. It was introduced at a meeting held on 1st May 2014 at the college premises with the participation of 120 Students and their parents.   Mr.Hilary Livera an eminent old boy who represents Vazians 87 Batch took the initiative in introducing the Shooting discipline to the school with the assistance of the Negombo Rifle Club which is one of the oldest civilian Shooting Club in Sri Lanka. Mr.Sagara Wimaladharma who is one of the ISSF recognized coaches who is also a member of the Negombo Rifle Club will assist Joseph Vaz College to train it’s athletes in the Air Pistol discipline. Negombo Rifle Club has produced number of talented junior and Youth shooters in the national and international shooting tournaments. With their assistance the college is expected to produce more youth shooters to represent Sri Lanka for the Youth Asian Games 2017 which will be held in Hambanthota, Sri Lanka.
